White butterfly season in Cuc Phuong National Park24 May 2018
Cuc Phuong is the largest national park of Vietnam and one of the most important sites for biodiversity in the country. It is home to hundreds of species of flora and fauna. Cuc Phuong has about 2,000 plant species and 2,600 animal species, many of which are listed in the Red Book of Vietnam and the world. This is one of seven centers of great plant diversity in Vietnam. However, only a few know that Cuc Phuong has a very “special” season.
In April, when the summer rains start to fall, the National Park Cuc Phuong transforms itself into a fairyland with millions of colourful butterflies. Just a 3-hour drive from Hanoi to Cuc Phuong National Park, you will immerse yourself in a wonderland of colorful wings.
With more than 400 species of butterflies of all sizes and colors, visitors are sure to have unforgettable sights, especially on sunny days when the animals are most active.
From the entrance, you can see a lot of butterflies flying around in the peaceful space of the park, in which if you have not seen it with your own eyes, you would not believe that it is real. Walking into the forest, you will be amazed by the sight of hundreds of butterflies gathering on the ground. And if you just gently wave your arms, they will spread their wings and fly away.
To admire butterflies flying over the sky, when coming to Cuc Phuong you should go on sunny days, especially on the days that rain then afterwards the sun comes out, that is when the butterflies fly out. Tourists are encouraged to try to visit during weekdays, when there are less visitors and the butterflies are less likely to be scattered around.
To get to Cuc Phuong National Park, visitors can go from Hanoi along the Highway 1A towards Ninh Binh. When reaching Gian Khau junction (10 km from Ninh Binh city), follow Highway 2A through Nho Quan town for about 2 km then turn left to Cuc Phuong National Park.
For those who love nature and peacefulness, the "butterfly paradise" in Cuc Phuong National Park is the ideal stop when traveling Ninh Binh.
